According to the 1997/98 telephone directory there are only 127 Ashes with phones in the Republic of Ireland. When the area codes are analysed the majority of Ashes are located between the 01 (yellow) area and 06 (green) areas. It is not suprising that 39% (50) entries are within the Dublin area as this is where the bulk of the population lives and also covers some of the original Ashe territory of Meath and Kildare.
Taking a closer look at the 28% (35) based in the 06 area, 89% (31) are in Kerry and almost all of these are on the Dingle Peninsula. It is likely that a good number of the Ashes elsewhere in the country are originally from Kerry, drawn away for social and/or work reasons.
